Recently, UPS (United Parcel service) has declared to open China-Europe full container rail freight, of which one route ranges from Zhengzhou till Hamburg Germany, indicating a new tie in the New Silk Road Economic Belt.

Cargoes of UPS will go straight from Zhengzhou to Hamburg.

Headquartered in Atlanta USA, UPS, a world leading logistics player, has established outlets in over 220 countries and regions. Its railway freight serves as a new measure for expanding its global business as a freight forwarder.

It’s learnt that UPS opened the first air freight route from Zhengzhou to Anchorage USA, with a stop at Inchon, shortening the duration from previous 50 hours plus to 14 and also listing Zhengzhou as the UPS’ fifth airport in China after Shanghai, Shenzhen, Chengdu and Qingdao.

UPS newly-opened China-Europe railway freight trains go in two routes: one from Zhengzhou to Hamburg, the other from Chengdu to Lodz of Poland. Incorporated into UPS’ existing freight transport and highway transport networks, its rail freight transport will be 50% faster than maritime transport and 70% lower in cost than air transport.

The Silk Road puts on a new tie

Since the opening of the Zhengzhou-Europe route on July 18, 2013, nearly 40 trips have been successfully accomplished. The route traversing Eurasia has greatly facilitated the building of China-Europe logistics channels in the Silk Road Economic Belt.

With the mean travel time of 15 days, the Zhengzhou-Europe train is faster than maritime transport and more economical than air transport, and it has now established destination stations in 34 cities of 12 European countries. Domestic sources of goods come from half of Chinese provinces, having effectively developed such stable basic origins as the Pearl River Delta, the Yangtze River Delta and the Bohai Sea Rim Economic Circle.
